How Does Fibrex® Resist Window Warping?

Warping is a problem that commonly occurs in windows with wood or vinyl frames. It can affect the windows aesthetically, as well as functionally. In today’s post, local residential window contractor Renewal by Andersen® of Sacramento discusses what causes window warping, and how this can be prevented.

What Causes Warping In Windows?

Warping in wood windows is due to the moisture absorbed by the wood fibers. Wood has uneven or asymmetrical fibers, which means some of them will expand and contract more than others, causing the wood to warp. Temperature changes is another factor that can compound the effects of moisture on wood frames. Extreme heat can also cause vinyl window frames to soften and warp. Wood window frames can be protected from moisture absorption by applying paint or protective stain.

Fibrex® Material

Renewal by Andersen specialty windows feature frames made of Fibrex material, an exclusive composite made with wood fibers and polymer. Our parent company Andersen® Corporation began development as early as 1958. The objective was to develop a material that has the strength and durability of wood with the low maintenance qualities of vinyl. The resulting material, Fibrex, was ultimately patented in 1991.

Fibrex was initially used as a structural component in Andersen door and window frames. As Andersen’s full-service replacement window company, Renewal by Andersen we offer replacement windows with frames that are entirely made of Fibrex. As an extruded material, Fibrex can be crafted into virtually any profile and window style that are both low-maintenance and warp-resistant.

Other Benefits

Fibrex frames are more than just warp-resistant. Their inherent strength lets us build slimmer frames that allow bigger glass areas without sacrificing structural integrity. The factory-applied coatings are far more durable than paint, and are warranted not to peel, crack or fade within its expected life span. Lastly, our Fibrex material frames are energy efficient. Combined with our High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass, our replacement windows can help you save on your heating and cooling bolls. All Renewal by Andersen replacement windows bear certification from the NFRC and ENERGY STAR®.
